Rhythm & Dance

Rhythm and dance belong to each other in the classical jembe arrangement, influencing and reinforcing each other. The rhythms often have a counting cycle of 12 beats, the dance-steps follow the fourth, which results in a so called ternary four-four-times.

But there are binary rhythmical structures (8, 16, 32), such counting to 18 or quite unrelateable ones as well – the focus lies on the feeling, stuffing the music into schemes is trying to class it with the European system.
